Approximately 1% of the lanolin is intentionally left in the wool after the scouring and cleaning process. This ensures conditioning effects and increases the longevity and vitality of our wool. We find the majority of our customers either don't notice a scent or find the natural scent to be mild, pleasant, and benign. This scent should dissipate within a few days. Care We highly recommend a zippered pillow cover for an extra dose of protection. Wool loves the sun as much as it loves fresh air. Setting your wool pillows out on a sunny day a few times a year is a great way to refresh and cleanse it naturally. Sunning for a few hours, flipping to get all sides, will naturally deodorize, bleach, disinfect, and revitalize your bedding. If allergies are an issue, you can place your bedding near a sunny window indoors and get all the same benefits of sunning it outside without the concern of bringing outdoor allergens in. For stains, we recommend spot cleaning your wool pillows with a solution of 3 parts water to one part vinegar. Let it dry in sunlight and repeat until the stain fades and odors dissipate. You can also substitute vinegar with a mild laundry detergent. For surface stains, hydrogen peroxide works well for blood, whereas rubbing alcohol can help to remove oils from cosmetics.
